An experienced lawyer who will help to implement and update the Knowledge Strategy for the Corporate & Securities Practice Group (“the Group”) in the United Kingdom together with projects to meet the Group’s knowledge needs, with a special focus on equity capital markets resources; monitor developments in the legal and business environment in order to keep both the Group and its Clients up to date; provide legal and practical expertise to support the Group’s practice, both directly and through the mentoring of junior lawyers; help create, develop and manage the Group’s collection of standard forms/models, precedents and research materials; help organize, design and deliver Group training; and provide other support as needed.
Ø Knowledge Strategy
o Work with the Knowledge Partner, the other Professional Support Lawyers who support the Group in London and globally and the Partners who supervise their work, as well as the Global Director of Knowledge Management, to understand the current knowledge needs of the Group. Help implement and update the plan to meet those needs that is aligned with the business goals of the Group, and help create mechanisms for regular review of the plan;
Ø Organizing and Sharing: Standard Forms and Document Collections
o Work with Group members and other PSLs to create and capture UK -related knowledge content and encourage the sharing of information and knowledge generally;
o Create and maintain a well-organized electronic collection of practice-related knowledge resources, which include in particular England & Wales law-governed Corporate & Securities standard forms (precedents) and accompanying notes, sample documents, best practices and how-to memos, legal memos and other materials useful to the Group;
o Help the Knowledge Department generally to tailor the Firm’s knowledge resources to meet the needs of the broader UK Corporate & Securities Group;
Ø Current Awareness and Thought Leadership
o Monitor and keep the Group informed about important developments in the law or business environment;
o Work with the librarians to determine requirements and policies and to implement processes regarding practice-related current awareness and alerts from internal and external sources;
Ø Lawyer Training and Technical Expertise
o Work with the Group and the Learning and Development team to identify practice-related training needs of the Group; and, building on existing training programs, organize, design and deliver (personally or with others) Group training, including seminars, workshops and offsite training;
o Train Group members how to access knowledge resources on the Mayer Brown internal intranet (“GlobalNet”) and elsewhere;
o Mentor associates;
o Provide direct support to individual practitioners to assist them with locating practice-related internal and external knowledge resources;
o Be a source of legal, market and practical expertise for all members of the Group, including the provision of direct support for client matters (where appropriate);
Ø Practice Group Pages on GlobalNet
o Develop and maintain the knowledge-related aspects of the Group’s GlobalNet site;
Ø Client-Facing Initiatives
o Work with the Group and the Marketing Department to identify opportunities to develop business from new and existing clients through articles, briefing notes, client training, etc;
Ø Matter Management and Collaboration
o Work with the Group and Marketing Department to establish processes to capture matter descriptions and categorizations in our matter systems, and conduct post-matter review of lessons learned;
o Assist with setting up a process for producing closing binders and collecting valuable precedent documents;
Ø People and Relationship Information
o Work with the Group to establish processes to capture and publish information about individuals (both internal and external) with specific knowledge and experience relevant to the Group’s business in the Firm’s dedicated CRM systems;
o Participate in the planning of training and other knowledge related activities;
o Participate in regular meetings of the Professional Support function and Knowledge Department and liaise with other PSLs to facilitate the sharing of best practice and knowledge;
o Attend external training and conferences to keep up-to-date with relevant developments in the law, business environment and professional support;
Provide other knowledge support to the Group as may be assigned by the head of the Group, the Knowledge Partner, or the Global Director of Knowledge Management.
