Hours:

 

9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. with flexibility in accordance with the needs of the business. Happy to talk flexible working.  Currently working from home is permitted on Mondays and Fridays, subject to business need – so you will need to live within commuting distance of the office.

 

The Team:

 

Mayer Brown's Pensions group has lawyers in key business centers across Europe and Asia, offering sophisticated solutions to the most complex issues facing our pensions clients.

 

Our UK pensions team is 15 strong with 5 partners. Our core work is acting for pension schemes of all sizes including some of the largest ones and including DC master trusts. We also act for employers and insurers. Our pensions works covers many sectors and types of schemes. Examples of our work includes advising on scheme funding matters, benefits design changes, scheme mergers, corporate activity and transactions. Investment, de-risking, disputes and the whole myriad of pensions issues.  Roughly 5%-10% of our work is providing support to our corporate team on transactions.

 

Our market leading finance, corporate, restructuring, insurance and litigation practices work very closely in providing a joined up and holistic service to our trustee and employer clients. Many of our clients are household names covering the retail, finance and electricity/energy sectors. We also advise pension schemes sponsored by trades unions and charities.

 

Our pensions partners encourage our team, whatever level, to be involved in business development activities and we ensure our junior lawyers get face to face client interaction so they gain experience as early as possible. We are a collegiate and inclusive team.

Qualifications

A qualified Solicitor (England & Wales) with 5-7 years post qualification experience.

Experience, skills and personal attributes:

  • Hardworking and committed to developing in the pensions team at Mayer Brown, with a view to career progression.
  • A track record of pro-active business development.
  • Excellent knowledge and understanding of handling and resolving technical legal issues.
  • A good understanding of and experience in advising in pensions investment products an advantage.
  • Experience in de-risking work is an advantage.
  • Excellent people skills and a good, clear communication style.
  • Ability to work effectively within an established, close-knit team.
  • Demonstrate ability to confidently interact with clients.
  • A commercial and pragmatic outlook.
  • Have attained degree certificate(s) from a reputed institution, achieving a minimum grade of 2:1 or equivalent.
  • Be self-motivated and possess a very pro-active attitude.
  • You can demonstrate an ability to manage your caseload with little day to day supervision as well as to supervise/manage junior lawyers.
