Responsible to: Assistant Director: Innovation (Europe and Asia)

 

Purpose of the role:

 

The Legal Innovation Analyst will support the analysis of legal focused solutions incorporating their understanding of legal practice, legal technology and processes to support innovation across Firm’s global practices and clients.

 

They will work on assisting the firm’s lawyers in the use and adoption of legal technology tools. Working closely with the Practice Tech and Innovation team, the Legal Innovation Analyst will drive engagement and support practices with existing technology tools, including Gen AI tools (e.g. Harvey, Kira, HighQ Collaborate, Copilot, Legatics and MS 365 Suite) and work on  conceptualizing, designing, developing and delivering innovative and effective processes and solutions, with a focus on swift-delivery results. They will serve as a point of contact for lawyers and business services teams on legal technology.

 

The Legal Innovation Analyst will preferably be a law school (or equivalent) trained legal tech enthusiast or an individual with experience of the legal technology tools described above in a law firm setting, who is ready to engage their entrepreneurial spirit to help grow an innovation function at a global law firm. 

 

Employing the skills of a business analyst, consultant, and project champion, they will serve as the ‘legal translator’ between the firm’s practicing lawyers and the rest of the Practice Tech and Innovation team. Experience in the legal industry is preferred, but is not as important as strong analytic, organization, and communication skills; a growth mindset; attention to detail; and willingness to learn.

 

The Legal Innovation Analyst may provide assistance in evaluating “buy-or-build” options, recommending the optimal solution and providing design and configuration assistance for its successful implementation. The Legal Innovation Analyst will provide input into planning and execution of various business scenarios, delivery of value-add services for practices and clients.  The Analyst will assist the Practice Tech and Innovation team in evaluating and implementing new technologies to assist practices with their legal service delivery.

 

Hours:

 

Standard hours are 9:30am to 5:30pm with flexibility in accordance with the needs of the business.

 

Our current working from home policy allows for two days working from home, subject to business need. This policy is subject to change and does not form part of contractual terms.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary trainer for legal technologies (such as Kira and Legatics), monitoring engagement with the tools and supporting lawyers in their use
  • Be proficient with specific legal technology tools, supporting business services teams and lawyers and, where appropriate, identify new use case opportunities
  • Act as liaison between lawyers and the Practice Tech and Innovation teams
  • Provide training to lawyers on new and existing technologies or processes and assist with on-boarding, including on policies and best practices within the firm
  • Assist in conducting needs assessments with lawyers and clients with an eye toward developing innovative solutions and workflows
  • Assist in investigating use of automation, AI including Gen AI, data, or other technology tools for business, practice group, or client needs
  • Support Practice Tech & Innovation projects from inception to delivery
  • Support the Practice Tech and Innovation team in identifying new applications of existing solutions
  • Assist lawyers and business professionals conceptualize, design/prototype, develop and deliver innovative solutions –focusing on delivering progressive quick-to-deliver wins
  • Assist in requirements-gathering sessions and provide project management of legal technology projects, including coordinating with relevant legal and business stakeholders
  • Coordinate intradepartmental collaborative efforts liaising with Practice Tech and Innovation team members to support the design of practice and client solutions
  • Provide or assist with providing presentations and demonstrations of Innovation Team products and solutions to lawyers and practice groups
  • Coordinate management of new and existing solutions between relevant business or technical units for ongoing support and maintenance
  • Understand appropriate methodologies for problem-solving (e.g., root cause analysis, Design Thinking, “Jobs to be done” theory, storyboarding, etc.)
  • Maintain current understanding of innovation, program evaluation and quality theory, measures, methods, and standards. Proactively acquire new industry, data, technology, and process improvement knowledge and skills that promote the continuous improvement of the department
  • Perform other functions as may be assigned by immediate supervisor from time to time

Qualifications

  • Degree qualification, minimum of a 2:1 (or equivalent) is desirable
  • Previous experience of studying for a professional legal or related technical or innovation course or experience of the legal profession
  • Applicants may be considered if they have significant work experience and/or a relevant professional qualification in the field of legal technology

Experience, skills and personal attributes:

 

  • Experience of working with legal technology and Generative AI tools and platforms within a law firm or similar professional services firm (e.g. Harvey, Copilot or other Gen AI tools, Kira or other due diligence tools, Legatics or other transaction management tools, HighQ or other client collaboration portals)
  • Eager to learn and champion use of new technology and processes
  • Able to clearly articulate technical concepts using non-technical language to varying levels within the organization
  • Proven track record of figuring out a solution when no clear solution is visible. Ability to piece together disparate systems to construct a viable prototype.
  • Willingness and passion for experimentation in building of solutions. Assess opportunities for improvement during the entire product lifecycle.
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills, required
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively in both written and oral formats
  • Ability to work independently and as a cohesive team member
  • Strong attention to detail and superior organization skills
  • Commitment to continuous learning and improvement

  • French written and oral communication skills, preferred;
